Designed by the Swiss sports brand On, the
Cloudprime is a pair of sneakers made from carbon
waste based on CleanCloud technology. Once
the carbon monoxide in industrial exhaust gases
is captured, specially selected bacteria naturally
ferment them into liquid ethanol through a
patented process. The ethanol is then dehydrated
to produce ethylene, before being polymerized
to become a versatile and lightweight material
for making shoe foam. For the first time, carbon
emissions are used as a primary raw material.
It’s been a long time since sneakers left the sports
fields to invade the sidewalks. And it is precisely
because they have become life-style that they can
carry a message of environmental responsibility
and be the source of awareness.
Designing them in vegan leather was the first step.
The next one will be more disruptive by using the latest
technological innovations such as those allowing
carbon emissions to be transformed into foam.
It is by rethinking the composition and construction
of sneakers that they will become more durable.
Not only able to leave a footprint on the ground,
but also reduce their carbon footprint...
