At the 2022 fall-winter show “Meta Morphism”
celebrating the 15th birthday of her fashion house,
this summer Dutch designer Iris van Herpen
opened-up our minds when she presented a haute
couture vegan dress made from recycled cocoa
bean shells processed into an entirely organic
bio-polymer. This amazing feat was made possible
thanks to 3D printing and the designer’s penchant
for exploring this technology’s creative possibilities.
The unexpected partner in this innovation was
Magnum Vegan ice creams. The dress was also
decorated with plant-based jewels and draped with
recycled organza.
For a brand or a designer, a modern edge today means
technological innovation and the ability to create by
bringing worlds together, especially worlds that seem
far-removed from each other: real and virtual, past
and present, here and elsewhere and, why not, food
and fashion. It’s an innovation’s ability to astonish
that ensures its impact and buzz. Creativity is great.
Surprise is even greater. Designer Iris van Herpen and
the Magnum Vegan brand understand that. She has
proved her talent by putting brand-new veganism on
the catwalk as a spectacular dress. Magnum Vegan are
joining the fashion world whose boldness and creativity
will surely spill over into its profile. Win-win.
